I usually do not get excited about business credit cards unless the credits line up with tools a business is already going to use. The American Express Business Gold Card is interesting right now because several of its benefits fit the way AI-first small businesses are starting to operate.

The credits that matter for an AI-first business

The card currently has a few credits that are especially relevant for builders, creators, consultants, agencies, and small business operators:

• Up to $300 per year for eligible ChatGPT Business purchases made directly with OpenAI in the U.S., after enrollment.
• Up to $150 per year for eligible Squarespace purchases, after enrollment.
• Up to $240 per year in flexible business credits, structured as up to $20 per month at eligible merchants such as FedEx, Grubhub, and U.S. office supply stores.

The annual fee is $375, so this only makes sense if the credits match expenses you would have anyway. The pro-AI part is that the card now supports a stack many modern businesses are already building around: AI tools, web presence, domains, shipping, and everyday operations.

Why the ChatGPT credit is the headline

ChatGPT has moved from “interesting tool” to normal business infrastructure for a lot of people. It helps with:

This is not a card I would get just because benefits sound good. It is a card I would consider if the credits match tools and services I already plan to use.

For AI-first small businesses, the stack is becoming clearer: AI subscription, web/domain infrastructure, content, customer communication, and simple operational systems. The Amex Business Gold Card is interesting because some of its credits now line up with that stack.
